Music has continued to be one of the most meaningful parts of my school life, and this year was filled with so many accomplishments and memories that I will always treasure. At this year’s music awards ceremony, I was honored to receive my second year lettering in Concert Band, my Tri-M Music Honor Society patch, and the Flute Section Leader Award Certificate. Additionally, I am happy to announce that I will be continuing my role as Flute Section Leader in Concert Band for the 2026-2027 school year. Looking back on everything that happened this year, I feel incredibly grateful for how many opportunities music has given me.
This year, I was able to letter through many different areas of my musical involvement: serving as a band section leader, auditioning for NHF and AMIS, being a Tri-M member in good standing, participating in pit orchestra for the school musical, serving on chapel praise team, taking private lessons on my instrument throughout the full year, and being a member of a youth orchestra outside of YISS. I also performed a full piece at a recital, attended a music performance outside of school and wrote a review on it, and continued to challenge myself in ways that helped me grow not only as a musician but also as a person.
I especially want to say thank you to Mr. Davis for the many opportunities he has given me since 8th grade. Through his trust and encouragement, I have been able to play three solos in total, serve as 1st flute, and take on the responsibility of Flute Section Leader. Thank you for trusting me to help lead the Concert Band and for constantly pushing me to become a better person.
I also want to thank my Tri-M Band Flex Group (Andy, Isaac, Woosung, Kate, and Alexis) for all of our fun talks, our trips to the elderly day-care center, and for performing together at school events throughout the year. I am also so thankful for my Chapel Praise Team for our weekly rehearsals and for leading Spiritual Emphasis Week together.
Reflecting upon all my musical experiences, I think being able to use music not only for performance but also to serve our community and worship God is what makes it so special. I am so grateful to God for providing me with these amazing opportunities, and I cannot wait to see what awaits me in my junior year.
